Days after the Union Cabinet approved the extension of the Aqua Line from Botanical Garden to Sector 142, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) announced that it will prepare a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Greater Noida West metro corridor. Under the revised plan, only four stations will be built in Phase 1 rather than the earlier proposal of 11 stations.

Noida Metro First Phase Stations
In the first phase, metro stations will come up at Sector 61, Sector 70, Sector 123, and Greater Noida Sector 4 (Gaur Chowk). Earlier, NMRC had planned an 18-km corridor connecting Delhi Metro's Blue Line at Sector 61 to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida, passing through several sectors in Greater Noida West. Although the Uttar Pradesh government approved this plan in 2024, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs put the approval on hold due to a proposed Ghaziabad-Jewar Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS).
New Metro Corridor Connections
The proposed 72-km rapid rail corridor, being planned by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), will connect Ghaziabad to Noida International Airport via Greater Noida West. It is expected to have 22 stations and be completed within five years. MoHUA earlier pointed out that some stations in this corridor overlapped with NMRC's metro plan and asked the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to review the alignment. However, YEIDA later confirmed there would be no changes.
Change in Plan
NMRC officials said that the metro will now be developed only up to Gaur Chowk in Phase 1, and the remaining stretch may later be taken up either by NMRC or the RRTS authority, and Sector 61 will act as an interchange with the Blue Line.
Criticism due to the Delay
Residents of Greater Noida West have strongly criticised the delay. Welfare associations say the area has over five lakh residents but lacks reliable public transport. Many depend on private vehicles, autos, and cabs, leading to daily traffic congestion. Residents have questioned why a fresh DPR is needed when an earlier one had already been approved and warned of protests if the project continues to be delayed.
