The Ministry of Railways has approved a new weekly train service connecting Mangaluru in Karnataka and Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu via Madurai, providing better rail connectivity between coastal Karnataka and southern Tamil Nadu. This new service is expected to benefit passengers who currently face difficulties due to the lack of
a direct train between these cities.
Approval for a Weekly Express Train
The Railway Ministry has approved a proposal to run a weekly express train between Mangaluru and Tirunelveli through Madurai. The decision was taken after a long-standing demand from passengers and railway users in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for a direct rail connection between the regions.
New Service Operations
Railway officials said that the service will operate once a week in both directions. From Mangaluru, the train is expected to depart in the evening and reach Tirunelveli the next day. On the return journey, it will leave Tirunelveli and reach Mangaluru the following morning.

At present, people traveling between Mangaluru and Tirunelveli usually have to change trains or use buses for part of their journey. This causes inconvenience, especially for students, workers, and pilgrims traveling between the two states. With the introduction of the new train, passengers will have a more comfortable and direct travel option.
The train will start from Mangaluru and pass through several important stations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu before reaching Tirunelveli. Important stops on the route include towns such as Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Shoranur, Palakkad, Pollachi, Dindigul, and Madurai to improve connectivity in many intermediate towns.
