Pune’s long-awaited Metro Line 3 has hit another pause. As of September 6, 2026, PMRDA is awaiting an inauguration date from the Prime Minister’s Office, even as it seeks safety inspections next week for five more stations. Earlier, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety granted provisional authorisation on July 23 for 12 stations between Maan and RK Laxman Museum in Balewadi.
“If approved, PMRDA will be ready to operate 17 stations on the 23.3 km corridor,” a senior official said. Yet passenger services cannot start until a formal inauguration. PMRDA has previously indicated it needs about 15 days after CMRS approval to complete formalities, but the ceremony date remains unassigned by the PMO. Frustration among daily commuters is building.

Pune Metro Line 3: What’s cleared and what’s pending
The five stations now queued for CMRS inspection next week—near NCL, Sakalnagar, SPPU Junction, Agricultural College flyover and District Court—extend the cleared Balewadi stretch deeper into Pune’s university and administrative belt. With the first 12 already cleared on July 23, approval of these five would meaningfully broaden access while the remaining stations progress toward full-corridor opening.
Pune Metro Line 3: Interchange, frequencies and fares
Line 3 will plug into Pune’s core network at the District Court–Civil Court interchange, where Lines 1 and 2 meet; a dedicated skywalk or foot overbridge will link the PMRDA line to the Maha-Metro hub. Lines 1 and 2 run every six minutes at peak, roughly ten off-peak, with fares typically ₹10–₹35. Expect seamless transfers once District Court opens.
For commuters, the near-term gains are tangible. Civil Court already hosts feeder buses, and parking exists at Shivajinagar and Civil Court for two and four wheelers. In Hinjawadi, revived corporate shuttles like Metrozip and a dense auto network cover last-mile gaps, while PMRDA and Maha‑Metro expand feeder routes. Expect quicker Hinjawadi–Balewadi trips now, with the university belt and interchange unlocking bigger time savings next.
