Journey App Set to Transform Nagpur Public Transport with Unified Route Planning and Ticketing

A new integrated mobility platform, the "Journey App," is being developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to make public transport in Nagpur easier and more connected for commuters. The app aims to help people plan their entire journey using a single platform rather than

switching between different apps.

Journey App Mobility Initiative

According to senior officials from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, around 80% of the work on the app has already been completed, and it is expected to be launched soon. The main goal of the project is to solve the long-standing last-mile connectivity problem and make buses and metro services work together as one coordinated transport network.

How Will the App Benefit Travellers?

The app will help commuters plan door-to-door travel. For example, a person travelling from Mankapur to Mihan will be able to check the nearest bus stop or metro station from their home. The app will show the walking distance to reach it and provide the exact timing of buses and trains. It will also suggest the best route for the journey. This could include walking a short distance to a bus stop, taking a city bus to a metro station, travelling by the Nagpur Metro for the main part of the trip, and then switching to another bus after getting off at Khapri.

Officials said the first version of the app will mainly help users plan their routes. In the future, the platform may also include feeder services, including auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws, so that passengers can complete their entire trip smoothly.

Introduction of Unified Ticketing

Another major plan is to introduce unified ticketing. At present, the metro app already offers bus ticket booking, while the Chalo App, used for city buses, also allows metro ticketing. In the future, these services may be brought together under the Journey App so that commuters can plan routes and book tickets for buses, metro, and possibly auto-rickshaws in one place.

Officials believe that by connecting buses and metro services digitally, the app will make travel more convenient and predictable. This could encourage more people to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
