Bengaluru-Hyderabad Bullet Train

The 626-km high-speed rail line was announced in the Union Budget on February 1. Once completed, it is expected to reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Hyderabad to just two hours. This would make it one of the fastest inter-city train connections in South India.

Regular Trains between Two Cities

At present, regular trains between the two cities take around 8 to 19 hours, depending on the service. Even premium trains take more than eight hours. Flights take about 1 hour and 15 minutes in the air, but the total journey becomes longer due to airport formalities and traffic. The bullet train aims to provide direct city-to-city travel in about two hours, benefitting business travellers, IT professionals, and frequent commuters.

Total Stations Across the Corridor

The corridor will have around 12 stations across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. In Karnataka, stations are likely at Alipura (Gauribidanur taluk), Devanahalli near Bengaluru airport, and Kodihalli in Bengaluru Rural district. Kodihalli could become an important interchange if the proposed Bengaluru-Chennai High Speed Rail Corridor also passes through it. Other expected stops include Mahbubnagar, Kurnool, Anantapur, and Hindupur. The train is designed to run at a top speed of 350 kmph, with an operational speed of around 320 kmph. The line will mostly run on elevated tracks built separately from existing railway routes. Surveys are being carried out by RITES Limited, and the Detailed Project Report is expected by March 2026.

Karnataka's Infrastructure Minister M B Patil has assured support for the project. If completed, the bullet train could improve connectivity and strengthen economic ties between the two major tech cities.
