Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, presented an ambitious plan in the 2026-27 state budget to transform Bengaluru into one of the most liveable cities in the world. The government plans to improve infrastructure, transportation, and urban services to support the city's rapid growth.

Introduction of Municipal Bonds
One of the key announcements in the budget is the introduction of municipal bonds. These bonds will help raise funds for development work across the five municipal corporations in Bengaluru. The move is expected to strengthen the city's financial resources and support large infrastructure projects. The government also highlighted Bengaluru's long history and unique identity, from its early development to its current role as a major start-up and technology hub.
Road Developments
The budget includes Rs 1,255 crore for infrastructure improvements in the city. In addition, the state government has significantly increased the development grant for Bengaluru from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 7,000 crore to speed up various urban development projects. To improve road quality and durability, the government plans to carry out white-topping of more than 450 km of roads. This method helps roads last longer and reduces maintenance costs. The plan also includes upgrading around 500 km of footpaths to make them safer and more convenient for pedestrians.
Construction of Skywalks
Another major proposal is the construction of 100 skywalks across the city to help people cross busy roads safely. In addition, about 175 road junctions in Bengaluru will be beautified over the next three years using the city's internal funds.
Sustainable Urban Planning
The chief minister also emphasised sustainable urban planning. The government plans to complete the Revised Master Plan-2041 by 2027, which will guide the city's long-term development. A Comprehensive Mobility Plan will also be prepared to improve transport planning.
Namma Metro Expansion
Expansion of Namma Metro will continue to make daily travel easier for commuters. The budget also includes major water supply projects and new transport corridors, which are expected to improve connectivity and support Bengaluru's future growth. These initiatives aim to shape a modern and sustainable urban future for the city.
