city development projects.

Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro

Mohol also confirmed that the long-delayed Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro line is expected to start operations in April. The project, being carried out by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, is 94% complete. Out of 23 stations, 13 are likely to become operational by the end of April. Hinjewadi has faced serious traffic jams, flooding, and road safety problems for many years. Industry groups and employee associations have repeatedly requested the government to provide better public transport. Although road widening plans were made, metro work faced several delays.

Metro Extension from Vanaj to Chandni Chowk

Mohol also said that metro extensions from Vanaj to Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi will begin soon. Planning for airport metro connectivity is also moving ahead, with six routes discussed and practical options finalized.

Road Expansion from Yerawada

Road expansion and beautification work from Yerawada Jail to Pune Airport and from Kalyani Nagar to the airport will start shortly. Land acquisition will be done wherever required.

Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said both central and local authorities are working together to ensure Pune's overall development. Discussions also covered airport runway expansion, which will require building an alternative road around the airport.

Other Developments

Other topics reviewed included sewage treatment projects, river improvement, 24/7 water supply, dust pollution control, removal of encroachments, development of monuments at Chandni Chowk and Deccan Gymkhana, renovation of Balgandharva Rangmandir, and progress at memorials and the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College project.
