The Nampally Railway Station in Hyderabad is being redeveloped at a cost of ₹327.27 crore. One of the most important features of this project will be a 200-metre skywalk, connecting the railway station directly to the nearby Hyderabad Metro station on the main road. The skywalk will include escalators and

travelators, so that passengers can move easily between the railway station and the metro system. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy shared it after he inspected the construction work at the station on Thursday. He visited the site along with Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of the South Central Railway, and other officials.
Connection of Hyderabad Metro & Railway Station
The minister said the station currently handles around 60 trains every day and sees about 28,000 passengers daily. As part of the redevelopment, the station will soon have 16 lifts and eight escalators. These will connect the platforms to a new air concourse to help passengers move around the station more easily. The upgraded station will also separate areas for arriving and departing passengers to reduce crowding.
The project will also create about 6,500 square feet of space for facilities such as food outlets, small shops, kiosks, toilets, and other passenger services. Basement parking will also be available for commuters.
Other Railway Stations to be Modernised
The minister also mentioned that other major railway stations in the city, including Secunderabad Railway Station and Kacheguda Railway Station, are also being modernised. Moreover, a new railway terminal has already been developed at Cherlapalli Railway Terminal.
He added that the railway budget allocation for Telangana has increased to more than ₹5,454 crore this year. Over the past decade, the railway zone has achieved almost complete electrification, except for one new line that is still being developed.
Railways have also built 346 km of new railway lines and upgraded 513 km of existing tracks. More than 40 railway stations in the state are currently being redeveloped. The new Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit, built at a cost of ₹521.36 crore, is expected to start operations within three months.
