Srisailam is a small town of great religious significance for the Hindus. Located on the Nallamala Hills in the district of Kurnool of Andhra Pradesh, the town was established on the banks of river Krishna. Srisailam is at a distance of 212 km from Hyderabad, the common capital city of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.

Srisailam is considered a holy town by the Hindus and is visited each year by millions of devotees from all over the country. The town has famous temples and theerthams that make it a popular pilgrim destination among pilgrims and tourists alike.

The most famous of the temples is the Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy Temple that is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Devi Parvati. Shiva is worshipped in the form of Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Parvati is worshipped in the form of Devi Bhramaramba at this temple. The temple carries great importance for the Hindus because it is one among the 12 Jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva. Mallela Theertham is another important place from the point of view of religion. It is actually a waterfall and is believed that bathing in the waters of this theertham can wash away the sins of a person.

    Srisailam is well connected to some of the major town and cities in the region via good network of roads. The Andhra Pradesh bus transport service has many buses plying to and from Srisailam. However, if you are coming from afar then it is best to get your bus tickets booked in advance.

    Srisailam has no railway station either, and the nearest railway station is situated at Markapur that comes on the Guntur-Hubli line. Markapur railway station is about 85 km from Srisailam. You can take a bus or a taxi from the railway station to reach Srisailam. Bus will be the cheaper form of transport.

    There is no airport in the city of Srisailam. The nearest airport is at Hyderabad which is about 201 km from the town of Srisailam.
