Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone for Jaipur Metro Line 2 in the final month of the current financial year. Metro officials said that once the foundation stone ceremony takes place, the Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) will be renamed as the Rajasthan Metro Railway Corporation (RMRC).

Senior JMRC officials told The Times of India that the Rajasthan state government has already sent a request to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for the ceremony. However, the project is still waiting for final approval from the Union Cabinet. Officials added that they are expecting both the cabinet's clearance and confirmation of the ceremony date to come together from the PMO.
At present, Jaipur Metro is unique because it is one of the very few metro systems in the country, along with Kolkata Metro, that has been built and operated entirely by a state government. Until now, the central government has not been a partner in running the Jaipur Metro.

With the launch of Metro Line 2, this arrangement is set to change. Officials explained that the existing corporation will be restructured into a joint venture between the central and state governments. As part of this change, JMRC will be converted into Rajasthan Metro Railway Corporation (RMRC). This new setup will allow both the Centre and the state to jointly plan, fund, and manage future metro projects in Rajasthan.
How Will the Jaipur Metro Expansion Help?
The proposed change is expected to help speed up metro expansion in Jaipur and other cities in the state. It may also improve coordination with the central government and make it easier to secure funding and approvals for upcoming metro lines. Officials believe that once the Union Cabinet gives its final nod, preparations for the foundation stone ceremony and the formal restructuring of the corporation will move ahead quickly.
