Muthupettai, Thiruvarur

Muthupettai or Muthupet as it is otherwise known, is a panchayat town in the Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. The town is famous for its saltwater lagoons and mangroves, which make it the perfect spot for fishing. It is located on the southern-most tip of the Cauvery delta, and enjoys a favourable climate owing to the proximity of the sea.

Muthupet is located close to 360 km away from the state’s capital, Chennai. It is located in between Thirutturaipoondi and Pattukkotai. Alayathi Kadu, one of the largest mangrove forests in India, is located in Muthupettai. It is an ideal spot for pearl hunting. Muthupet is easily approachable from all major cities and towns in the region like Thanjavur, Karaikal and Kumbakonam.
