Thirukannapuram Neelamega Perumal Temple, Thiruvarur

The Thirukannapuram Neelamega Perumal Temple in Thiruvarur dates back to the 10th century A.D and is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Neelameghaperumal in this temple. It is an excellent example of the temple architecture that the Cholas were famous for.

It is one of the most important temples in Thiruvarur and attracts visitors around the year. The main sanctum of the temple is designed in the form of a tower which rises to a 100 ft above the ground. The temple complex in itself is located on a vast area of land. The temple’s mandapam is an ideal spot to meditate and let all the fear and anxiety leave the soul.

The temple also has several smaller shrines dedicated to the worship of various gods and goddesses. Among those shrines include ones dedicated to Lord Ganapathi and Goddess Parvathi.
