Mudikondan Kothanda Ramar Temple is located in Mudikondan which lies between Mayiladuthurai and Thiruvarur. The temple and the village that surrounds are believed to be at least 20 centuries old. It is one of the ancient temples in South India. It is dedicated to Lord Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Lord Rama is depicted in the attire of a king in this temple. It is one of the few temples where Lord Rama is depicted as a King. According to myth the depiction of Lord Rama as a King predates his actual reign as king. This was done to appease the sage Bharadwajar.

The idol of Rama is adorned with a crown. This temple is popular among devotees of Lord Rama and attracts a fair number of them throughout the year. According to popular belief praying to Lord Rama at this temple rids the devotee of all worldly sins.
