  • 01Dilwara Jain Temples

    Dilwara Jain Temples, built between 11th century and 13th century, are one of the must see tourist attractions in Mount Abu. The temples are beautifully carved out of white marble. These temples consist of five exquisitely carved Jain temples and are considered to be the most beautiful Jain temples in all of Rajasthan.

    All the five temples are quite different from each other, with each one of them named after a village in Rajasthan. The five temples are the Vimal Vasahi Temple, the Luna Vasahi Temple, the Peethalhar Temple, the Khartar Vasahi Temple and Shri Mahaveer Swami Temple.

    A large number of Jain devotees visit here to pay their respects to the Tirthankaras (saints). Tourists in large numbers visit here to witness the architectural excellence of these temples. To know more about these temples, one can hire the services of tourist guides. Dilwara Jain Temples are situated about two and half kilometres away from Mount Abu and can be reached by road.

  • 02Nakki Lake

    The Nakki Lake is another popular attraction in Mount Abu, visited by tourists and local residents. It is located at an elevation of 1200 m and is India's only artificial lake. It is a beautiful and serene place with picturesque hills in the backdrop.

    The name 'Nakki' comes from a legend associated with the lake, according to which, the lake was dug by nakhs (nails) by gods to protect themselves from wicked demons. According to another legend, the lake was dug in one night by Rasiya Balam, a sculptor of Dilwara Jain Temples.

    Tourists can also visit the Gandhi Ghat, constructed in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. His ashes were immersed in this lake on February 12, 1948. There are a number of rocky mountains near the lake, providing visitors and adventure lovers with a chance to involve themselves in rock climbing.

    Another interesting thing that one can do while at the Nakki lake is boating, a perfect activity to enjoy the calm and tranquil waters of the lake.

  • 03Toad Rock

    Toad Rock

    The Toad Rock, a well-known tourist attraction in Mount Abu, is a massive rock near the famous Nakki Lake. It is located on the main trekking route from the hilly town. The lofty rock resembles the shape of a toad and thus the name “Toad Rock”.

    In addition, there are a number of other rock structures near the Toad Rock, the prominent being the Camel Rock, the Nandi Rock and the Nun Rock. These rocks are perfect for trekking. Trekkers can witness a panoramic view of the Nakki Lake and the surroundings, on reaching the top of the rocks.

    The Sunset Point is a popular evening attraction in Mount Abu, which lies to the south-west of the Nakki Lake. The place provides a picture perfect view with beautiful mountains in the backdrop; a delight to watch, especially, at sunset.

    This place is a popular tourist attraction during summer season, as visitors in large numbers travel here to seek comfort in its cool surroundings. People interested in shopping go to the nearby Honeymoon Point, famous for its artefact shops and food joints. Tourists can buy souvenirs, such as miniature wooden idols, trinkets and toys, at this place.

  • 05Achalgarh

    Achalgarh is a small village in Rajmachi. It is famous for the Achalgarh Fort, situated around 11 km away from Mount Abu. A number of tourists who come to the hill station, also visit the Achalgarh Fort for its historic and religious significance. Originally built by kings of the Parmara dynasty, the fort was reconstructed at Achalgarh in 1452 AD by the Mewar king, Rana Kumbha.

    The Achaleshwar Hamadev Temple lies in the premises of the Achalgarh Fort. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the footprints of the Hindu god are imprinted on a holy rock that is present in the temple. A large brass statue of Lord Shiva's bull, Nandi, is also placed in the temple, along with stone structures of three large buffaloes.

    Contributing to the religious importance of the fort, there are also a few Jain temples within the fort. There are two main entrance gates to the temple, one being Hanumanpol and the other being Champapol. The Achalgarh Fort was constructed to protect the region from the invasion of enemies, to keep the inhabitants safe.

    Guru Shikhar Peak

    The Guru Shikhar Peak is the highest mount peak in the Aravalli region and is at a distance of 15 km from Mount Abu. It is situated at a height of 1722 m. Travellers are known to trek this magnificent mountain peak. Travellers can enjoy a bird's eye view of the entire Aravalli range of mountains, from the top of this mountain peak.

    The Guru Dattatreya Temple, an archaic temple, can be found on the peak of this mountain. The temple is dedicated to Guru Dattatreya, believed to be an incarnation of the trinity, Lord Bramha, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.

    Some of the other temples located on this mountain are the Shiva Temple, the Mira Temple and the Chamundi Temple. Besides temples, the mountain is home to the Mount Abu Observatory, a major facility for ground-based infrared observations of celestial objects. The observatory is under the administration of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL).

    Adhar Devi Temple

    The Adhar Devi Temple is another popular tourist attraction in Mount Abu. The temple is built on a high peak and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. The temple is located inside a cave. Devotees climb 365 steps into the mountain, with each step symbolising a day in a year, to reach the temple. The long journey does not deter the pilgrims, who visit here in large numbers to seek blessings of Goddess Durga.

    Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

    The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is a must watch attraction for anyone travelling to the hill station. The sanctuary lies in the Aravalli mountain range and is situated on a plateau which is about 19 km long and 5-8 km wide. In 1960, it was declared as a wildlife sanctuary.

    The place offers tourists with a variety of flora and fauna, making it a splendid treat for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is especially rich in floral varieties. It is home to more than 820 species of plants. A large variety of orchid flowers is found here, as well.

    Besides surrounded by greenery, the sanctuary is also quite popular for its fauna. Wildlife lovers enjoy visiting this place to see a number of unique and endangered animal species. Earlier, lions and tigers were found in the hills, but now, the only feline predator found here is the leopard.

    Nevertheless, the place is still house to other wild species, such as sambar deer, wild boar, bear, jackal, Indian fox, wolf, hyaena, small Indian civet and jungle cat.

    Mogli Land

    Not long ago, around 800 m above the Aarana Village in Mount Abu, relics of an old civilisation were found. A team of forest officers excavating the site found ancient pots and bricks. It was concluded that these relics were more than 1000 years old, and the site served as a resting place for travellers of that time.

    Now, this site is being developed as a tourist spot. It would be called Mogli Land because of its resemblance to the forest that was depicted in Rudyard Kipling's famous book, The Jungle Book. The main character in the book was 'Mogli'.

    Trevor's Tank

    Trevor’s Tank is a well-known tourist destination in Mount Abu. It is situated at a distance of 5 km from the main town of Mount Abu. The temple is said to be constructed in the 14th century by a Hindu scholar, Shri Ramanand. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple is visited by a number of devotees, who belong to the Vaishnava cult of the Hindu religion.

    Doodh Baori

    Doodh Baori, situated at the footsteps of the Adhar Devi Temple, is a sacred well and is one of the important religious sites in Mount Abu. The name 'Doodh Baori' comes from the fact that the water in the well has a distinct milk-like colour. There are a number of legends associated with the colour of water in this well.

    According to one such legend, the well is the main source of milk for Gods and Goddesses. The well water is considered sacred by many local inhabitants. It is their belief that the well water possesses some magical powers. Many devotees consider the well symbolises Kamdhenu, a cow goddess.
