Koppal is a town situated on the left bank of Hirehalla river. The historic Koppal Fort with a base of 400 m from plains is the most significant attraction of Koppal district. It is believed that Tipu Sultan captured the Koppal Fort way back in 1786 AD from the Marathas and reconstructed the fort with the help of engineers from France. The strong construction of the fort was appreciated by British Forces too, when they along with Nizam acquired the same in 1790.

People can easily reach Koppal by road and rail. Koppal is situated on Guntakal and Hubli railway line. Trains are available from almost all nearest places like Bengaluru, Vijayawada and Belgaum. You can also avail bus services from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Hubli, Goa, Mysore and other places. There are many other attractions in Koppal district like Mahadeva Temple in Itagi, Huligemma Temple in Munirabad and Mallikarjuna Temple in Kukanur.
