NFR Launches Five Pairs of Holi Special Trains with 6 Trips Each Between Feb 17 and Mar 28, 2026

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced that it will run five pairs of special trains for the Holi festival to help manage the large number of passengers travelling during the holiday period. These special trains will run between February 17 and March 28, 2026, with six trips in both directions over this period.

Special Trains to Cover Routes

The special trains will cover important long-distance routes, including Narangi to Gorakhpur, Katihar to Amritsar, Dibrugarh to Jaynagar, New Jalpaiguri to Muzaffarpur, and Kishanganj to Lalkuan. The first of these, Train No. 05974 (Dibrugarh-Jaynagar), starts service on February 17 and will run every week until late March. All trains are scheduled for specific weekdays so that travellers can plan their journeys better.

How Will these Holi Special Trains Help?

NFR said these Holi special trains will help reduce crowding on regular trains and provide direct and reliable connections for people heading home for the festival. Railway officials have advised passengers to check the detailed stoppages and timings on the IRCTC website or through NFR's official social media pages before travelling.

Holi's Special Train Services Across the Nation

In addition to these five pairs of trains, Indian Railways across the country is planning to put maximum effort into Holi travel. This year, the total number of special services during the festive season is expected to be around 1,500, which is higher than last year's count of 1,144 special trains. The increase reflects the railways' effort to better handle the heavy travel demand during Holi and make journeys more comfortable and accessible for passengers.
