Indian Railways has announced more than 18,200 special train trips for 2026 to handle the passenger traffic and make travel easier during the busy months of April, May, and June, when many people go on holiday or return to their hometowns.

Special Train Trips
According to reports, the Ministry of Railways has approved 908 special trains, which will run across different railway zones to manage heavy passenger demand. These trains will operate between April 15 and July 15, 2026, covering the peak travel period. Out of these, around 660 trains, making up over 11,000 trips, have already been announced. This allows passengers to book tickets in advance and plan their journeys more easily.
Among the railway zones, South Central Railway (SCR) will run the highest number of special trains, with 124 trains. However, Central Railway will operate the highest number of trips, with 3,082 runs, followed by East Central Railway with 2,711 trips. Western Railway and Northern Railway will also play a major role, running over 2,000 trips each. These services will improve connectivity between major cities like Mumbai and Delhi and states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal.
Indian Railways' Initiative
To support this increase in train services, the Railways has also taken additional steps. Stations will have better drinking water facilities, and more Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff will be deployed to manage crowds. Officials will keep a close watch on waiting lists and may add more trains or extra coaches if needed.
The aim is to reduce overcrowding, prevent unauthorized travel, and ensure more passengers get confirmed tickets. Travelers are advised to check schedules on the IRCTC website or official apps, as many of these special trains run only on specific days.
