EMU Train: Central Railway to Introduce the First 12-Car Non-AC EMU Train with Modern Features

Central Railway is preparing to introduce its first 12-car non-AC EMU train with modern features, built by Integral Coach Factory, and is currently kept at the Kurla Car Shed. According to Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila, the train will start passenger services after completing all required trials.

EMU Train to Undergo Safety Checks

Before launch, the train will undergo important safety and performance tests. One of these is the Confirmatory Oscillograph Car Run (COCR), which will be carried out by the Research Design and Standards Organisation. These tests measure factors including speed, acceleration, vibrations, and overall ride quality. They help ensure that the train is safe, stable, and suitable for regular use.

The rake will also go through Passenger Convenience and Safety trials. These tests will check braking performance under different conditions, passenger comfort, and the working of automatic doors, alarms, and safety systems. The integration of the train with signalling systems will also be tested to ensure smooth and safe operations.

EMU Train Features

The new 12-car EMU train comes with several advanced and passenger-friendly features. It includes an automatic sliding door system with an anti-drag mechanism to prevent accidents and unsafe travel. The coaches have stainless steel seats in second class and cushioned seats in first class. Wider windows are provided for better airflow and natural light.

The train also has improved ventilation through interconnected coaches (vestibule connectivity), allowing easier movement and better air circulation. Safety features include emergency alarms with external reset options, emergency evacuation systems, and smoke and heat detectors with alerts in the driver's cabin.

CCTV cameras are installed in all coaches for better security. Additionally, the train has crew-friendly features like a voice and video recording system and air-conditioned driving cabs, ensuring a safer and more comfortable journey for both passengers and staff.
