The upcoming Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line in Pune is close to completion, with around 94% of the 23-kilometre route already finished. Of all the stations planned on the corridor, 13 stations are completely ready for passenger use. Construction work at another 15 to 17 stations is also nearing completion, with

more than 90% of the work done. This means only a small amount of civil construction and system installation remains. Developed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, the project is in partnership with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which is overseeing the entire development.
Conduction of Trial Runs
At present, trial runs are being conducted along the full corridor. These tests are meant to check whether the metro system works safely and smoothly before it is opened to the public. Officials are carrying out detailed technical and operational inspections, including checks on signalling systems, power supply, tracks, and station facilities.
Final Launch of the Service
Authorities aim to complete the remaining work by April 2026. However, the final launch of the service will depend on receiving a formal clearance letter from the project concessionaire. Once this approval is granted, officials will decide whether to start services across the entire route at once or open the line gradually by launching operations at selected stations first.
How will it Benefit Commuters?
Once operational, the metro line will be a fast & direct transport connection between Hinjewadi, which is a major IT hub, and Shivajinagar, one of the busiest areas in Pune. The new metro service is expected to reduce travel time for thousands of office workers and daily commuters while offering a more reliable and eco-friendly alternative to road travel.
Connection with Pune Metro Network
The line will also connect with the existing Pune Metro network at Shivajinagar, making it easier for passengers to change trains and travel to different parts of the city. Officials say the project will help reduce traffic congestion, improve daily commuting, and strengthen Pune's public transport system.
