The Shenbagavalli Poovanathar Temple is located at Kovilpatti on an elevated place Kovilmedu. The temple is dedicated to the deities Poovana Nathar Swamy and Shenbagavalli Amman. The temple also houses the famous idol of Goddess Shenbagavalli which is 7 ft tall.
The Ambal Adipooram festival and Chithrai Theertham festival are the most important festivals of the temple, and it attracts a large number of devotees. The male deity of the temple is Arulmigu Poovana Nathar Swamy. The deity was worshipped by Saint Agastiar while travelling to Pothigai Hills.
