Rajagopalaswamy Temple at Mannargudi is famous among devotees as Dakshina Dwaraka. Lord Krishna is worshipped as Rajagopalaswamy in this temple. The temple complex is spread over an area of 23 acres. The temple complex includes 24 shrines, 16 tall gopurams or tower gateways, 7 courtyards, 7 halls and 9 tanks.

It was built during the reign of Kulothunga Chola, but has been remodelled extensively over the course of the ages by succeeding kings of the Chola dynasty. It was later expanded by the kings of the Nayak dynasty.

The temple tank is known as Hardidranadhi and at 1158 ft long and 837 ft wide, is one of the biggest temple tanks in India. The best time of the year to visit the temple would be during March and April, during the Tamil month of Panguni. During this time the Panguni Thiruvizha is celebrated in the temple, for a period of 16 days.
