  • 01Malampuzha Gardens

    Malampuzha Gardens, more popularly referred to as the Vrindavan of Kerala, lies in proximity to the reservoir area. It is a perfect location where the wonders of nature go hand in hand with the creativity of man. The garden area has long stretches of luxurious lawns, breathtakingly beautiful flower beds, splendid fountains, spectacular pools and other spots which offer a visual treat to the spectator.

    It is an ideal place for children for the garden has a lot of play area and amusements including a children’s park. Other attractions of the garden are the aquarium, aerial ropeway, the Yakshi Statue, Rock Garden, Rose Garden, a swimming pool and the fountains.

    The garden has a man-made canal that offers boating facilities. Visitors can stroll through the pathways built through the garden and enjoy the sights of the garden to the fullest. Additional facilities such as drinking water, food courts, shopping courts, lockers, resting areas and security points are available.

    On weekends and on other holidays, the gardens are illuminated from 7 PM to 8 PM. The entire garden and the dam site becoming a luminous delight are a sight no traveller would want to miss. Timing: 10 AM to 6 PM on weekdays 10 AM to 8 PM on weekends.

  • 02Malampuzha Dam

    Malampuzha Dam, one of the major tourist attractions of Palakkad, is the biggest irrigation reservoirs in Kerala. Comprising of a masonry dam, an earthen dam and a vast network of canal systems, this majestic reservoir offers a picturesque view with winding mountain ranges in its backdrop. Located at a distance of about 10 km from the town of Palakkad, the dam is easily accessible by road.

    The dam site has a spectacular garden and an amusement park attached to it. Though originally started as an irrigation project in 1955, other leisure and entertainment options were added to the dam site later. Constructed across the Malampuzha river, the dam and the reservoir cater to the irrigational needs of the region, in addition to acting as a tourist hotspot.

    Malampuzha Garden is located adjacent to the dam and attracts tourists with some entertainment and sightseeing options. Boating facilities are available for tourists in the dam site. It is an ideal spot for family tours and one day trips.

    Thread Garden

    Thread Garden, another must-visit garden in Malampuzha, draws millions of visitors for it is unique and extraordinary in nature. Like any other garden, this one too has flowers and plants in it; but what makes this garden a stand-out from the rest is the fact that they are made of thread. The plants and flowers displayed in the thread garden are not machine-made, but painstakingly woven with hand.

    This garden stands as a testimony to the skill and hard work of the many workers who made this marvellous wonder possible. Located close to the Fantasy Park, this garden is conceived and realized by a person named Antony Joseph.

    An entire range of flowers and plants are elegantly displayed in glass chambers. These real-life replicas, magically woven with a vast spectrum of hues and designs, serve as a real delight to the spectators.

    Fantasy Park

    Fantasy Park, an amusement park located in Malampuzha, is one of the most visited tourist places in north Kerala. In 1998 this park bagged the Best Innovative Tourism Product in Kerala State Award of the Kerala Tourism department. The park, which is located around 10 km away from the town of Palakkad, is spread over an area of 15 acres.

    It serves as a one-stop-destination for one day tours, school picnics and family day-outs and is designed by Neo Tech Amusements and Resorts (P) Ltd. The park contains interesting rides for people of all ages, a magnificent garden, spectacular water fountains, food courts, ice cream parlours and resting points.

    Battery Car Ride, Water Kiddy Ride, Baby Train Ride and Mini Tele Compact are suitable for children while Oriental Express Train, Water Merry Go Round ,Go Cart, Pirate Boat and Dragon Coaster offer ultimate entertainment to families. The park has recently opened a digital planetarium and Wet Park that adds to the popularity of it.

  • 05Rock Garden

    Rock Garden

    The Rock Garden of Malampuzha is the first of its kind in Kerala and the second rock garden in India. Located close to the Malampuzha Dam and Gardens, this spot attracts visitors with its uniqueness. This impressive collection of artwork is conceived and designed by renowned sculptor and Padma Shree laureate Neck Chand Saini.

    Another creation of Neck Chand, India’s first rock garden located in Chandigarh, has gained recognition from all over the world. What makes this garden distinct is the fact that the artifacts displayed here are made of waste materials such as used plastic bottles and cans, bangle pieces, electricity fuse carriers, power insulators, melamine dishware, broken tiles and tins.

    Winding mountain ranges of the Western Ghats in the surroundings add to the scenic beauty of this garden. Functioning from the year of 1996, this place is under the administration of the District Tourism Promotion Council. This place, an ideal spot for art lovers, is bound to impress the visitors with its originality and creativity.

  • 06Snake Park

    Snake Park

    Snake Park, a reptile rehabilitation centre, is situated close to Malampuzha Dam and Malampuzha Gardens. With a wide variety and species of snakes, the park attracts visitors all around the year. Both poisonous and non-poisonous snakes are housed in this park which is under the administration of the Forest Department.

    It is safe to walk around the park and watch different species of snakes. The park acts as a reptile rescue centre as well where injured snakes can be taken to. Established in 1984, the snake park is home to a number of snake species such as King cobra, Brown Vine Snake, Kraits, Indian Rock Python, Common Cobra, Trinket Snake, Monocled Cobra, Spectacled Cobra, Rock Pit Viper, Wolf Snake and much more.

    Water snakes and other reptiles such as crocodiles are also conserved in this park. Snake Park is easily accessible from Palakkad town and offers an educative experience to those who visit it.

    The Yakshi Statue is one of the most popular sculptures of Kerala which is regarded as an artistic wonder by lovers of art. The statue is located in the Malampuzha Gardens and attracts millions of visitors every year. The statue, placed at the backdrop of mountain ranges and lush green gardens, offers a visual treat to the spectator.

    Yakshi, a mythological figure, was sculptured by Kanai Kunhiraman, one of the most famous sculptors of Kerala, in the year of 1969. The statue is colossal in size and is created out of a single section of rock. The skillfulness and the creativity behind the statue are remarkable, and it leaves the spectator spellbound.

    Udan Khatola

    Udan Khatola, the passenger ropeway built over Malampuzha Gardens, is one of the most sought-after attractions in Malampuzha. Being the first and the only ropeway in South India, Udan Khatola of Malampuzha attracts visitors and travellers from all over Kerala.

    The ropeway is constructed at a height of 60 ft from above the gardens and covers a stretch of about 625 m. The ropeway offers an excellent vista of the gardens and the mountain ranges against the backdrop of which the garden is placed. The passenger ropeway with its transparent hoods is absolutely safe for children as well as adults, and the 20 minutes ride covers the entire stretch of the garden.

    This spectacular sky-ride provides absolute delight to children, families, picnic groups and people of all ages.

    Thenkurussi

    Thenkurussi, a hamlet known for its picturesque beauty and rich heritage, is located at a distance of about 10 km from the town of Palakkad. The village is well connected by road, and there are frequent bus services from Palakkad. Nelliampathi, a tourist location of Palakkad known for its vast stretches of orange gardens, is about an hour’s journey from Thenkurussi.

    This scenic village is best known for the many temples it houses of which the most renowned ones are the Thayankavu Temple, Elamannam Sanakaranarayanan Temple and Siva Temple-near Ambalanada. The Siva Temple of Thenkurussi carries with it a history and heritage that date back to centuries.

    Festivals such as Ayyapanvilakku, Shivarathri, Navarathri, Thiruvathira in Dhanu, Vishu, Uthradam and Thiruvonam are celebrated with great fervour in this temple. This spot is a gateway to both Nelliampathi and Nenmara and is an ideal place for travellers who want a taste of heritage and divinity.
