Ghoshit Ram Vihar, Kaushambi

Ghoshit Ram Vihar or monastery finds reverential mention in the Buddhist scriptures. It is one of the main attractions of the area for the Buddhist pilgrims. The construction of the vihar dates back to the life time of the Buddha. It was built by a businessman named Ghoshit Ram so that Lord Buddha and his disciples could stay in it during their visit to Kaushambi.

It is believed that Lord Buddha frequently visited this place along with his followers and also delivered sermons to the people of the area. Some ‘Bhagnashes’ were discovered in the course of the excavations carried out at this historical place. They have been transferred to the Allahabad Museum to be displayed as exhibits of those times.
