Kalsi is a beautiful tourist destination perched at an altitude of 780 m above sea level in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. This place, which serves as the gateway to Jaunsar-Bawar tribal region, is situated at the meeting point of the rivers, Yamuna and Tons. Ashokan Rock Edict, an important monument in the history of Indian epigraphy is one of the popular tourist attractions of Kalsi. This is a rock onto which the fourteenth edict of the Mauryan King, Ashoka, was engraved in 253 BC. The edict is a compilation of the king’s reforms and advice, in Prakrit language and Brahmi Script. The height and width of the structure is 10 ft and 8 ft, respectively.
