Bhatkal Beach, Bhatkal

2

Travellers can visit Bhatkal Beach while heading towards the port town of Bhatkal if time allows. Surrounded by the Western Ghats, hills and coconut trees, Bhatkal Beach is located along the Arabian Sea.

It was used as a major port in the 16th century during the rule of the Vijayanagara Empire. Along with Murudeshwara Fort, this beach is also recognised for two major shrines, Vijayanagara Temple and Jain Chandranath Basadi that had animal pictures carved.

It is also known for several medieval shrines situated at a hillock located in the vicinity called Kanduka Giri. The lighthouse located at the beach allows tourists to enjoy a striking view of the sea and the nearby areas. The months between August and October are considered to be the best time to visit this pristine beach.
