Paramekavu Bhagavathy Temple, Thrissur

The Paramekavu Bhagavathy Temple is one of the oldest temples in Kerala, almost back a thousand years. It is the biggest temple in Kerala which is dedicated to Maa Bhagwathy, a form of Goddess Durga.

It is believed that Maa Bhagwathy leaves her temple to make a visit to the Vadakkumnathan Temple to meet Lord Shiva every year when the procession for the Thrissur Pooram festival is conducted with all pomp and glory.

The Paramekavu Bhagavathy Temple is one of the two main participants in the Pooram (festival). This festival held somewhere in April-May is celebrated with a lot of gusto and aptly represents the spirit and culture of the city. It is open from 4.30 AM to 10.30 AM and 5 PM to 8.30 PM.
