Mapusa - A Perfect Blend Of Temples, Beaches And Churches

10

Mapusa is a township in north Goa that’s very close to Baga, Calangute and Anjuna beaches. Approximately 13 km from the capital city of Panjim, it serves as a budget zone for travellers looking for a good hotel deal, especially during the season that lasts from October to December.

Known for its Friday market, Mapusa changes colour with hawkers from neighbouring towns and villages selling unique handcrafted goods, agricultural products, fresh fruits and other local ethnic accessories. Mapusa is also known for its wide variety of seafood.

Regular bus services are available to and from Mapusa to Panjim and other parts of Goa. Cabs may also drive you there, but beware of drivers looking to overcharge tourists.

How to Reach Mapusa

  • By Road
Goa can be accessed from Mumbai via the famous Mumbai Goa highway or National Highway 17 which links Mumbai straight to Goa. Off late though, this route has fallen into disrepute on accord of there just being 2 lanes all along, one up and one down which not only is a little dangerous but also makes for a longer journey. The more convenient route is to head to Pune from Mumbai via the 8 lane expressway and then connect up to the Satara highway right till one gets to Sawantwadi on the far end of Maharashtra. Goa is just another few minutes from there. From Mumbai, Pune and other cities in Maharashtra, numerous bus services are available to Goa and very comfortable ones at that. The recommended kind to take is any service operating a low floor Volvo semi sleeper.
