Vairavan Kovil is one amongst the seven most revered temples by the Chettiars. In fact, it is believed to be the third temple of most importance for the Chettiars. The temple is located about 10 km from Karaikudi and is built on the road that connects Karaikudi with Tiruchirappalli. The temple is dedicated to Lord Saneeswara and his wife, Devi Kamakshi Ammai.
Behind the temple is the Bhairava Theertham. The water of this holy tank is believed to have miraculous powers and helps heal many problems related to skin and bone degeneration. People have known to be cured of their skin-related issues, such as eczema, acne and rosacea after taking regular dips in the theertham. Many people have also reported of having improved bone and muscle health after bathing in the theertham. Problems of aching joints and arthritis can also be cured by regular dips in the theertham.
Even today, the Chettiars give the temple plenty of importance during religious ceremonies and celebrations.
