Jalandhar Attractions - Tourist Places To Visit In Jalandhar

Kartarpur Gurdwara, built by Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, is located 16 km northwest of Jalandhar city in Kartarpur. Each year, a fair is organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Guru.

Visitors can see remains of a Chaubacha (water storage well), which previously had fully functional fountains. This gurdwara is known otherwise as Shri Chaubacha Shahib. This is also the place where Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji used to play chess with Jarnail Painde Khan.

Devi Talab Mandir is a famous religious site, located a kilometre away from the Jalandhar City railway station. It happens to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. As per folklore, this temple is built on the site where the right breast of Goddess Sati fell. It is one of the 51 Shakthi Peethas of the country. This 200-year-old temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and has a tank, which is considered sacred by Hindus.

Moreover, the temple also has an idol of Bhishan Bhairav (Lord Shiva). Every year in December, Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan is organised here, which attracts a large number of musicians and travellers from near and far. Besides, there is a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali in proximity to this mandir. The temple's structure resembles the cave temple of Amarnath.

St. Mary's Cathedral is one of the popular tourist attractions of this city. The church, once governed by the Diocese of Lahore, is under the Jalandhar Diocese at present. High rising domes and crosses adorn this magnificent structure. The garden surrounding this church boasts of a variety of trees and beautiful flowers.

Tulsi Mandir, popularly known as Vrinda Devi Temple, was built in the memory of Vrinda Devi – a consort of the demon king Jalandhara. There is a tank inside this temple that earlier served as the bathing place of the demon.

Near this temple, there is a Gupha (cave) that has an idol of Goddess Annapurna. She is considered to be the Goddess of Harvest and Food by Hindus. The temple of Sheetla Devi, located within the premises, is believed to be as old as the city of Jalandhar. There are many temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in and around this religious site, besides a Brahma Kund.

Shiv Mandir, built during the supremacy of the Nawab of Sultanpur Lodhi, is located in Gur Mandi. According to folklore, the Nawab had an evil eye on a newly married Hindu girl, a devotee of Lord Shiva. The serpant of Lord Shiva, Basukhi, is believed to have saved the girl from the Nawab.

The Nawab begged her forgiveness and built this Shiv Temple on her instruction. The front gate of the temple resembles an entrance of a mosque while the rest of the temple reflects Indian architecture.

Sodal Mandir was built in the memory of Baba Sodal. It is believed that Baba Sodal's mother accompanied him to a nearby pond, where he mischievously started throwing clay balls at her. She got irritated and cursed him. Thereafter, he not only made his mother repeat the curse but also jumped into the pond to obey her, and never returned.

It is believed that Babaji reappeared in the form of a holy snake and revealed his farewell from the world. He also ushered the Chadha and Anand clans to worship him. The Sodal Fair is organised here every year on Anant Chodas in August/September.

Rangla Punjab Haveli, located on the GT Road, offers a glimpse into the rural lifestyle of Punjab. It is a theme village showcasing statues of village women and children, dressed in traditional attire. Visitors are welcomed in a traditional Rangla manner by waiters dressed in tehmat and kurtas and phulkari jackets. They can also enjoy the traditional Punjabi dance – bhangra – performed here, besides the authentic Punjabi cuisine.

Various cultural programmes are organised here daily to entertain and enlighten tourists about Punjab's culture. Some rare photographs and musical instruments are also on display.

Pushpa Gujral Science City, situated on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala Road, spreads over an area of 72 acres. This place is ideal for children, owing to the number of science projects displayed here. These projects are related to varied fields like physical, natural, social sciences, engineering, technology agriculture, human evolution, nuclear science, health, IT, bio technology, etc.

For entertainment, laser shows and flight simulations are also organised. There are restaurants located inside the Science City, where visitors can relish delicious dishes. Many schools organise special science excursions to this attraction. This is a place for people of all ages and all walks of life.

Wonderland Theme Park is located in the Doaba region and is one of the must-visit tourist attractions. It is counted among the most famous amusement parks of the country - where people of all age groups enjoy themselves. It has a lot of rides and tourists can enjoy many interesting rides here, such as bumper cars and flying jets.

Featuring replicas of ghosts and paranormal creatures, the Horror House within this park provides a thrilling experience. The water park here has a bayside, wave pool, wonder fall, indoor aqua dance, giant and speed slide. The place also has a lush green lawn and a gift store.

Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum was inaugurated on 23rd March 1981, which marks the fiftieth death anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This museum is situated in the ancestral village of the freedom fighter - Khatkar Kalian, which is at a distance of 55 km from Jalandhar.

All the relevant documents and photographs related to him and a few other revolutionaries are on display in this museum. Half-burnt bones and blood-stained newspapers are also preserved and displayed here. Visitors can even see the pen that was used for signing the infamous death sentence of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
