2

Kedareswar Temple is located high up on the hills of Madanachala, Hajo. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is regarded as one of the oldest temples in the Indian subcontinent. The temple was constructed during the reign of King Pramatta Singha in the 18th Century.

At the foot of the Kedareswar Temple lies the renowned Ganesh temple. There is a huge Shivalinga in the Kedareswar Temple which is made of stone. The Shivalinga is popularly known as the Svayambhu Linga. This form of Lord Shiva is also known by the name Ardhanariswara. The notable thing about this Shivalinga is that it is always covered by a metal bowl.

Tourists can thus easily visit both the Ganesh temple and Kedareswar Temple at the same time while at Hajo. Kedareswar Temple is unique and its old inscriptions are worth noting. Currently, a study is being conducted on the significance of these old inscriptions.
