    Gurudwara Sri Darbar Sahib

    Gurudwara Sri Darbar Sahib is located in Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur. It is built to commemorate the first Sikh guru - Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is believed that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited this place after returning from his first preaching tour or Udasi in 1515. Guru Ji had come to meet his family - Mata Sulakhni (his wife), Baba Sri Chand (son) and Baba Lakhmi Chand (son).

  • 02Dera Baba Nanak

    Dera Baba Nanak

    Dera Baba Nanak, situated at a distance of 45 km west of Gurdaspur, was built to commemorate Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji - the first Sikh Guru. It is said that he lived here for twelve years. The clothes that were given to him when he visited Mecca are preserved here. In the second week of January on the eve of Maghi is the time when a lot of pilgrims flock here.

    The Gurudwara Tahli Sahib is located in its proximity. This place is situated on the left bank of the Ravi river, close to the Indo-Pak border. Guru Ji lived here and shed his mortal coil opposite to Dera Baba Nanak in the town which he named Kartarpur, captured by Pakistan later.

    The followers of Shri Guru Nanak built a new town and gave it its present name. Kartarpur Gurudwara is visible from Dera Baba Nanak.

It is believed that Guru Nanak Dev Ji used to meditate at Sarji Sahib and preach his followers near this well. Baba Ajita Randhawa gained knowledge about Sikhism from Guru Nanak Dev Ji at this place.

    Sri Namdev Durbar

    Sri Namdev Durbar is located in Ghoman, which is about 10 km away from Sri Hargobindpur. This religious attraction is associated with Baba Namdev, who is believed to be the founder of the town. As per a folklore, he meditated here for 17 years.

    Guru Namdev Ji is known and remembered for his miraculous deeds. He believed that “the truest form of bondage or devotional meditation is to enter matrimony and jointly seek the holy experience of Waheguru.” At the Durbar, visitors can also see numerous religious inscriptions, which belong to the 13th century.

    Mahakaleshwar Temple is a unique religious attraction as it is the only Lord Shiva temple in India that has a horizontal Shivaling. This temple is located in the town of Kalanaur, which is around 56 km away from Gurdaspur. It is believed that wishes of visitors, who come to the temple with a pure heart, are fulfilled by Lord Shiva. An annual fair is organised in the temple on the occasion of Mahashivratri (celebrated in honour of Lord Shiva).

    As per Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva rescued the world by drinking poison, which turned his throat blue. Worshippers come here from all over the country to participate in this colourful spectacle. Tourists can hire cabs or board state and private buses to reach this temple.

    The coronation site of Akbar, as the name suggests, is the place where the coronation ceremony of Akbar took place after the demise of his father. This ceremony took place on 14th February 1556, when Akbar was 13 years old.
