Mahakaleshwar Temple is a unique religious attraction as it is the only Lord Shiva Temple in India that has a horizontal Shivling. This temple is located in the town of Kalanaur, which is around 56 km away from Gurdaspur. It is believed that wishes of visitors, who come to the temple with a pure heart, are fulfilled by Lord Shiva. An annual fair is organised in the temple on the occasion of Mahashivratri (celebrated in honour of Lord Shiva).
As per Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva rescued the world by drinking poison, which turned His throat blue. Worshippers come here from all over the country to participate in this colourful spectacle. Tourists can hire cabs or board state and private buses to reach this temple.
