Takht-i-Akbari, Gurdaspur

The coronation site of Akbar, as the name suggests, is the place where the coronation ceremony of Akbar took place after the demise of his father. This ceremony took place on 14th February 1556, when Akbar was 13 years old.

At the time of his father’s death, Akbar was accompanied by Bairam Khan (his tutor). They were staying at Kalanaur in Gurdaspur district, which is 25 km from the main city. Now, this place is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
