Non-commercialised yet, Ramakkalmedu in Idukki district of Kerala, provides you a spectatcular view of Tamil Nadu. Ramakkalmedu is a hill station along the Western Ghats and is situated 3500 feet above sea level.

Ramakkalmedu literally translates to the hill where Lord Ram once placed his feet. It is said that Lord Rama graced upon this hill when he was out in search of Sita. Also, some believe that the hill itself looks like Rama's face from Tamil Nadu.

The cradle of wind, Ramakkalmedu houses huge windmills that have also become part of the tourist attraction here. The place is so breezy and windy that it'll give your lungs a fresh breath of air.

Resorts and restaurants will soon come up at the foot of the hills. Our suggestion? Visit Ramakkalmedu while it is as unexplored as it stands now.

There are statues of two adivasis who are known to be the cause behind Idukki arch dam. Their names, Kuruvan and Kuruvatti. They are believed to have faced a curse by a goat according to which they turned into hill-rocks. After the building of the dam, their rock statues were installed here.

As Ramakkalmedu is rather non-commercialised yet, there are thankfully no hotels or food stalls available atop the hill. Althouh there are little shops at the foot of the hills, there aren't any big hotels or resorts close by. The nearest hotels are at Idukki and you could book them right here.

The nearest known place to Ramakkalmedu is Kattapan which lies at a distance of 20 km. Munnar lies at a distance of 70 while Thekkady is only 43 km far. Ramakkalmedu promises to be a smooth breeze!
