The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Chennai on Friday evening and night. The city is also likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning during this period.

Tamil Nadu Rain Alert
According to the weather department, north coastal Tamil Nadu, the delta districts, Puducherry & Karaikal are expected to receive scattered light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph until August 1. The rainfall is being caused by a weak trough present along and off the Tamil Nadu coast in the lower levels of the atmosphere.
The RMC has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in The Nilgiris, Theni, Kanniyakumari, and the Ghat regions of Coimbatore and Tirunelveli over the next two days. The rest of Tamil Nadu is likely to receive isolated light rain along with thunderstorms until August 1.
On August 2, moderate rainfall is expected in a few places across the Western Ghats districts, while light rain is likely in other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. From August 3 to August 5, light to moderate rain is expected to continue over north coastal Tamil Nadu, the delta districts and the Western Ghats. Other parts of the State are likely to receive light rainfall during this period.
The weather department also stated that maximum temperatures in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu are expected to remain 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal on Friday. Temperatures in the rest of the State are likely to remain close to normal until August 5.

In Chennai, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be 26 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Madurai Airport recorded the highest maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu at 39 degrees Celsius on Friday. On the other hand, Udhagamandalam (Ooty) recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the State at 12.8 degrees Celsius.
Residents have been advised to stay alert for thunderstorms and strong winds, especially in areas where heavy rainfall has been forecast.
