Metro Line 9 Phase 2 has entered a significant stage before its opening to passengers. Signalling integration and train trials are set to begin as work progresses towards commissioning the new section.

Mumbai Metro Lines 2A, 7 and 9 to Start at 6.30 am for 10 Days
Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) will conduct testing from September 15 to 25, 2026, during a dedicated early-morning non-revenue window. Due to this work, services on Metro Lines 2A, 7, and Line 9 Phase 1 will begin at 6.30 am during these 10 days instead of their regular timings. The temporary change will give technical teams enough time to carry out signalling software migration, testing and validation without affecting the operational network during passenger hours.
Why the Morning Block Is Required?
Line 9 Phase 2 will need to work together with the existing Metro network, including Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 Phase 1. Therefore, integrating the signalling systems is an important step before the new section can begin regular passenger services. Since the existing Metro corridors operate during revenue hours, MMMOCL will use the early-morning period as a controlled window for the technical work. The work will be managed through the Operations Control Centre (OCC) at Charkop Depot, where teams will monitor the signalling software migration and testing.
Signalling Software Ready for Speed Trials
The signalling software needed to conduct speed trials on Line 9 Phase 2 is now available, allowing the next stage of testing to begin. During the trials, technical teams will examine the signalling system performance and how it interacts with the existing operational network. The objective is to ensure that the new section can be integrated safely and reliably before it is commissioned. MMMOCL said the special operating arrangement is necessary to offer technical teams sufficient uninterrupted time to complete the required safety and validation work.
Commuters have been asked to cooperate with the temporary change in timings as the Mumbai Metro network prepares for the next phase of expansion.
