Ibudhou Thangjing Temple

One of the places to visit in Bishnupur is the Ibudhou Thangjing Temple that is dedicated to Lord Ibudhou Thangjing. It is believed that the lord protects the town from evil and drives away calamities. It is highly revered by the locals, who come here to pay homage to the lord. Tourists coming here can also pay their respects at this temple and enjoy the scenic views that surround this holy place.

Keibul Lamjao National Park

One of the major tourist places in Bishnupur is the Keibul Lamjao National Park, which is the only floating national park in the world. The park houses a variety of animals and birds, but special mention must be made of the dancing deer otherwise known as Sangai that travellers can sight in the park. It is a haven for nature lovers, bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts who travel to this unique park to catch a glimpse of the wildlife.

INA Memorial Complex

Another tourist place in Bishnupur is the INA Memorial Complex. It was the headquarters of the Indian National Army led by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. The flag of Azad Hind Fauz was hoisted for the first time at this very memorial. The memorial has a bronze statue of Dr. Bose along with several badges, letters and articles of the freedom fighter. Tourists coming here get a glimpse into the life and struggles of the hero.

Loktak lake

Another place to visit in Bishnupur is the Loktak Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in the north-east. The unique aspect about this lake is that it is the only lake in the world which has a natural floating island on it. The island is inhabited by the locals and there is also a National Park here. The island also has to its name a fish farm. Tourists coming here will be awed by the beauty of the lake and it is an ideal place to go for a picnic with your family.

How to Reach Bishnupur

By Air: Imphal Airport is the nearest to Bishnupur, which is 27 km away from the district headquarters. All major airlines connect to Imphal from Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata.

By Train: Bishnupur has no broad gauge rail line. Thus if, tourists want to travel to Bishnupur by train, they will first need to reach Dimapur, located 236 km away.

By Road: NH-150 connects the state capital with Bishnupur and serves as a lifeline to the district. The NH-150 reaching Imphal is connected to the rest of the country through NH-39 (reaching Guwahati) and NH-53 (from Silchar). NH-150 crosses all major towns in the district.
