The Maharashtra government has announced a toll exemption for vehicles carrying devotees to the Konkan region during Ganeshotsav 2026, available from September 11 to September 27, covering the period when thousands of people travel to their native villages to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with their families.

The exemption will be available at toll plazas on major roads leading towards Konkan, including the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway 48 and the Mumbai-Goa National Highway 66. Vehicles travelling towards Konkan through the Atal Setu will also be eligible for the toll waiver. Other roads leading to the Konkan region will also be covered under the arrangement.
Who will be Exempted from Paying Toll Charges?
Devotees travelling by private vehicles will need to obtain a special sticker or pass carrying the inscription "Ganeshotsav 2026 Konkan Darshan" to use the toll-free facility. These passes will be available at local police stations, traffic police posts and Regional Transport Office offices. The pass will remain valid for both the journey to Konkan and the return journey. Travellers have been advised to collect the required pass before beginning their trip.
The toll exemption will not be restricted to private vehicles. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses travelling from different parts of the state to Konkan for Ganeshotsav will also be exempted from toll charges, aiming to benefit passengers travelling by public transport as well.

Every year, lakhs of people from Mumbai, Thane, Pune and other parts of Maharashtra travel to their ancestral villages in Konkan for Ganeshotsav, resulting in a major increase in road traffic during the festival. The government's toll waiver is aimed at making the annual journey easier and reducing the financial burden on devotees.
The 17-day toll-free arrangement is part of the state's preparations for the expected festive travel rush and is intended to provide smoother and more convenient road travel to Konkan during Ganeshotsav 2026.
