Two-wheeler and autorickshaw bans on Bengaluru’s KIA and Electronic City flyovers are on hold, September 9. The move follows bottlenecks after rollout on the KIA corridor from September 4. Airport runs and Hosur-side drives should ease this weekend while reviews continue. Officials said the change responds to field feedback on diversions and congestion.
“The Bengaluru traffic police undertook a preliminary field assessment of traffic conditions,” said Karthik Reddy. “Equal priority will be given to both road safety and smooth traffic flow.” For now, two-wheelers should keep left and maintain 60 km/h on the KIA corridor, as advised by police during the phased implementation.
KIA and E-City flyover two-wheeler ban: what changed today
On the KIA elevated road, two-wheelers and autorickshaws are permitted until further notice. Goods-vehicle restrictions continue during notified peak bands. From September 11, Electronic City will follow a phased plan: goods-vehicle curbs first, while two-wheelers remain allowed. Meanwhile, restrictions already continue on the BGS, Peenya and Double-Decker flyovers.
Airport commute: KIA flyover status and smarter alternates
At rush entry ramps, prefer the NH44 mainline and merge at later access points. From East Bengaluru, a reliable workaround is Nagawara–Thanisandra–Bagalur to New Airport Road. Vayu Vajra buses remain the simplest hedge: KIA-9 from Majestic, plus KIA-8 routes. Always confirm departures on Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) KIA portal. The Airport Metro corridor remains under construction.
Hosur Road getaways via E-City: timings, lane discipline and toll exits
Planning Krishnagiri, Yelagiri or Hogenakkal? Leave before six, return pre-four or after eight. Stay on NH44 through Attibele and Krishnagiri; for Yelagiri, exit at Ponneri or Natrampalli. For Hogenakkal, continue to Dharmapuri and branch towards the falls. Breakfast halt options and crowd patterns vary; earlier windows usually beat toll queues.
