The Gopalakrishnan Temple in Thirukavalampadi is open every day twice - from 8 am to 11.30 am (morning) and from 5 pm to 7 pm (evening). The temple is dedicated to the deity Gopalakrishnan Perumal with his wives Rukmini and Satyabhama standing beside him.
This is the place where Krishna offers darshan along with Rukmini and Satyabhama and is considered to be as sacred as Dwarka by the devotees. Legend has it that once Lord Krishna was in search of the parijata flower for his wife Satyabhama and lord Shiva instructed him to go to the lake by this temple, which was supposed to be full of this magical flower.
Thus, the temple came to being called the Thatamalar poikai. This temple is considered as one of the Divya Desams - one of the 108 sacred temples of which the Alwars sang about.
