Ayothyapattinam Sri Kodandapaniramar Temple, Salem

Ayothyapattinam Sri Kodandapaniramar Temple is located in Ayodhyapattina. The temple gets its name because it houses the footprints of Lord Rama. The temple is famous for its splendid architecture. The pillars in this temple have a unique feature. They produce music when tapped. The temple also has several huge structures depicting stories of Lord Rama’s life.

The temple was constructed by Tirumalai Naicker. A visit to the Ayothyapattinam Sri Kodandapaniramar Temple is said to be equivalent to visiting Ayodhya. Legends say that this temple emerged at the spot where Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshamana, Hanuman and their army rested after defeating Ravana and rescuing Sita.

Since they could not reach Ayodhya in time Rama had his coronation at this place. The most important festival celebrated in the temple is Ram Navami. The devotees offer their prayers to the temple and their life’s obstacles are believed to disappear.
