Namakkal Rockfort, Namakkal

Namakkal Rockfort is a retreat situated atop a hill. It takes about half an hour to ascend to the summit of the rock fort. It is one of the most popular forts and believed to be one of the safest forts in the country. The fort is at an elevation of 75 m.

This famous fort was built in the 9th century. The unique feature of this fort is that it has a temple and a mosque inside the fort. Devotees throng the fort to worship at the temple and the mosque. The possession around the hillock is known as Girivalam. Girivalam is a very popular tourist destination and thousands of devotees visit it to seek blessings at this place.
