U Lum Sunaraja, located in the Jaintia Hills district, falls near the Umkiang village, which takes about 3 hours 12 minutes to reach from Shillong by road. The U Lum Sunaraja hillocks are abounded with greenery having patches of vegetation and also a lake meandering its way, cutting through the green lands.
The locals in these areas believe that the elephants choose this deep lake as their final resting place as the aged mammals come and plunge themselves in it and embrace their death. It is also believed by the people that an enormous serpent guards the precious ivory.
