  • 01Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary

    While on a trip to Dandeli, travellers must visit Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, which is one of the prime attractions of the town. A selected forest area was deemed as the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, on 10th May 1956, which was later declared as the Dandeli Anshi Tiger Reserve in 2006.

    Upon reaching this sanctuary, tourists would get the chance to explore steep slopes, deep river valleys and hilly forest terrain. This sanctuary sprawls across an area of 834.16 sq km and is situated at a height of 100-970 m. This sanctuary is home to several types of unique and rare species of animals, such as black panther.

    Tourists can spot wild animals, like barking deer, sambar and spotted deer, along with birds like the yellow-footed pigeon, great pied hornbill, crested serpent eagle and peafowl. There are around 200 bird species that include ashy swallow-shirkes, drongos, Brahminy kites, Malabar hornbills and minivets.

    Tourists can also opt for trekking as well as coracle boat rides in the sanctuary jungle. An ideal time to visit the sanctuary is between the months of October to June. Tourists can explore this sanctuary in an open jeep along with trained guides. If time permits, then tourists can visit Anshi National Park that is located in the vicinity of Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary.

  • 02Kulgi Nature Camp

    Travellers are 'recommended' to visit Kulgi Nature Camp, which is located at a distance of about 12 km from Dandeli bus stand in Kulgi Village. Travellers who are planning a trip to Kulgi Nature Camp are offered tented accommodation amidst dense forests.

    Tourists can choose from any of the twelve available tents at this camp, which are named after the name of several birds. Visitors can contact the division of the Dandeli wildlife for the accommodation arrangements. If time allows, they can visit Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary that is situated in proximity of Kulgi Nature Camp.

  • 03Shiroli Peak

    While on a trip to Dandeli, travellers are recommended to visit the Shiroli Peak. This peak is located at a distance of 25 km from Dandeli within the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. Upon reaching Shiroli Peak, tourists would get the chance to view beautiful Sahyadri range.

    Being the highest point in the Uttara Kannada Region, Shiroli Peak is popular among trekkers. This peak is also known as the sunset viewpoint from where tourists can see Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and Western Ghats. Tourists can only enter in the region after taking consent from the forest department.

  • 04Kali River

    Tourists on trip to Dandeli town are 'recommended' to explore Kali River, also known as Kalinadi. This river originates from a small village named Diggi that is the lifeline of around 4 Lakhs people. Several dams have been constructed across Kali River for generating electricity. Supa Dam in Ganeshgudi is one of the chief dams that have been built across this river.

    Visitors can enjoy boating in the saucer-shaped coracles that are made using tanned buffalo hide and bamboo. Upon reaching the site, travellers would get the chance to see birds like weaverbirds, egrets and pied kingfishers, to mention a few.

    Tourists who embark on a trip to the 184 km long Kali River can also visit the Sadashivgad Fort that is situated by the bridge of river. This fort was constructed at the confluence of the river and the Arabian Sea.

    On the bridge of the river is the National Highway NH17, and the road that later connects Goa to Karnataka. Tourists can visit the river from the month of October to March as they will be able to enjoy white-water rafting in the river during that time.
