    Chandraprabha Sanctuary

    Chandraprabha Sanctuary is located in the Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh about 70 kilometres from the historic city of Varanasi. It encompasses several scenic picnic spots, scintillating waterfalls, such as Rajdari and Devdari and dense forests. The sanctuary was established in 1957 to house the Asiatic lions. Apart from the lions, several other animals are found here including porcupine, blackbucks, chital, wild boar, sambar, nilgai and Indian gazelle. The reptile species are represented by gharial and python. The sanctuary is a birdwatcher’s delight and attracts around 150 species of residential and migratory birds. The vegetation is typically dry deciduous forests.

    The sanctuary is spread across an area of 78 square kilometres and lies on the Naugarh and Vijaygarh hillocks in the Vindhya forest range. The best time to visit is from October to February. Though there are no accommodation facilities here, there are several eating joints from where you can buy snacks.

    Rajdari Devdari Waterfalls

    The Rajdari and Devdari waterfalls are found in the Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary was established to conserve Asiatic lions and though their population has dwindled, there are several species of animals and birds that live here. Apart from the animals and birds, the sanctuary is home to several other attractions, more notably the Rajdari and Devdari waterfalls.

    The crystal clear waters, gurgling over the rocks present a breathtaking sight. The scenic, tranquil surroundings lend a sense of mysticism to the experience. The sanctuary is accessible from Varanasi; it is about 55 kilometres from the city. People usually come here for a day trip and though there is no accommodation here, there are several eateries here to serve snacks and drinks.
