Gurudwara Guru Ka Mahal, Amritsar

Gurudwara Guru Ka Mahal, situated near the magnificent Harmandir Sahib, was built by Guru Ram Das Ji, the founder of Amritsar, in 1573, as a residence for his family. His son, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, got married and was blessed as the 5th Sikh guru at this family home.

In the course of time, Gurudwara Guru Ka Mahal served as the residence of the son of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Guru Hargobind Ji, who also took his marriage vows here. It is also the birthplace of the sons of Guru Hargobind Ji, Baba Atal Rai and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

Later, Guru Hargobind Ji and his father transformed the family residence into a shrine. The pious Guru Granth Sahib is placed inside a large rectangular hall within the gurdwara. This religious site can be visited by tourists on the occasion of Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti.
