Vayalur Murugan Temple is located at a distance of 9 km from Trichy. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple was built during the rule of the Chola Dynasty around 1200 years back. The temple has been known by several other names such as Adi Vayalur, Kumara Vayalur, Vanni Vayalur and Agnishwaram.
There are several shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Natraja, Sri Poiya Ganapati, Valli and Deivanai within the premises of the temple. The Natraja idol of the temple has a speciality in the sense that both its feet are on the ground. A festival is celebrated to honour these idols.
