Angling in Himachal Pradesh

The charm of enjoying angling in Himachal Pradesh gives a unique experience to anglers. Often regarded as Angler's Paradise, tourists come here from all over the world to fish for trouts, the most exotic breed of fish. The trout fishing season is from March to October. Mahseers are the next best options to fish in the water bodies of Himachal Pradesh. Popular places where tourists can enjoy angling are at The River Chenab, River Satluj, the Ravi near Chamba and the Beas near Kullu.

The Maharana Pratap Sagar Lake is the best place to fish for both brown and rainbow trouts. The best time for angling is during the months of January, February, September and December is the best time for Mahseer fishing. Kaykaying, swimming, sailing and canoeing are a few water sports that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Winters and monsoons are not good for most of the water sports.

The picturesque Kangra valley has several spots where anglers can spot mahaseers. The reservoir of the Maharana Pratap Sagar right up to the town of Dehra has good spots for fishing.
