After Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Bullet Trains For 8 More Major Cities on Government List; Check It

The Indian government is making significant steps towards expanding its high-speed rail network, with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project currently under construction. Following this, several other cities are set to be connected by high-speed trains, and the government has prepared a list of potential future routes.

India s Bullet Train Plans

In response to questions raised in the Rajya Sabha by Smt. Geeta Alias Chandraprabha and Shri Narayana Koragappa, Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project, covering a distance of 508 kilometers, is currently the only sanctioned high-speed rail project in India.

This project is being built with the technical and financial support of the Government of Japan and will pass through 12 key stations: Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.

The construction work for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is progressing well. As of now, 336 kilometers of pier foundations, 331 kilometers of pier construction, 260 kilometers of girder casting, and 225 kilometers of girder launching have been completed. Additionally, the work on the under-sea tunnel, which stretches approximately 21 kilometers, has also started.

In addition to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, the Ministry of Railways has tasked the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) with preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for seven more high-speed rail corridors.

These proposed corridors are:

1. Delhi - Varanasi
2. Delhi - Ahmedabad
3. Delhi - Amritsar
4. Mumbai - Nagpur
5. Mumbai - Pune - Hyderabad
6. Chennai - Bangalore - Mysore
7. Varanasi - Howrah

Out of these, the Delhi-Varanasi and Varanasi-Howrah corridors will pass through Uttar Pradesh. However, the future of these high-speed rail projects depends on various factors, including the outcome of the DPRs, techno-economic feasibility, and the availability of financing resources. As these projects are capital-intensive, decisions on their approval will be made based on these key considerations.

The introduction of high-speed rail corridors in India will significantly improve transportation, reduce travel time, and provide more efficient travel options across the country. The government continues to explore new possibilities to strengthen the country's rail network and meet growing demand for faster, more reliable transportation solutions.
