It has historic significance as it was the starting point for the Salt Satyagraha march. Now a national monument, the ashram houses the Gandhi Smarak Sanghrahalay museum. Jama Masjid

One of the places you must visit in Ahmedabad is the magnificent Jama Masjid, which means Friday mosque. The striking example of Mughal architecture, has been built using yellow sandstone. Situated in a large rectangular complex, the mosque has a prayer room that consists of four domes. There are subtle influences of other cultures and architecture in the mosque, such as the lotus shaped central domes. Intricate detailing makes this a must-visit attraction in Ahmedabad.

Vastrapur Lake

A key tourist attraction in Ahmedabad is the Vastrapur Lake. Situated in the western part of the city, the lake is picturesque, with many well maintained lawns and rock garden detailing. The lake attracts people from all over the city, especially during weekends. There is a track surrounding the lake for joggers, as well as an open-air theatre and park for children. The surrounding parts of the lake even sees cultural activities take place.

The largest lake in the city of Ahmedabad, Kankaria lake was originally built in the 15th century by Sultan Qutbuddin. Today, it attracts travellers to enjoy the many attractions the lake-front has to offer. It has something to offer everyone in the city from couples to kids. Fun events such as the Kankaria Carnival takes place every December and showcases cultural performances.

Built completely in white marble by a rich merchant in the honour of the 15th Jain Tirthankar, the temple sports intricate carvings on the walls. Though the Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary is located 64 km from Ahmedabad, it is still a great place to visit. It is among the largest wetland bird sanctuaries in the country, and the largest in Gujarat. The key attraction of the sanctuary are the migratory birds like Rosy Pelicans, Herons, Flamingoes, etc.

Ahmedabad has many mosques, but the Sarkhej Roza stands apart as a key sightseeing place in the city. Once the centre of Sufi philosophy, the mosque is built with both the 'jism' or body and 'ruh' or spirit. The intricate complex has many structures assembled in an organised fashion. The tombs and mosque placed around a large tank provide the traveller plenty to explore. The beautiful and delicate architecture is a confluence of both Islamic and Hindu styles.

Gujarat has some interesting stepwells, among them is the Adalj Stepwell in Ahmedabad. The unique well or 'vav' is constructed in sandstone, in keeping with the Solanki style of architecture. A popular tourist attraction in Ahmedabad, the well has eight sides and five storeys. There are many intricate carvings and sculptures. Travellers can also observe on the walls, scenes of people performing daily chores or exquisite dancing postures.
